Pastor Sieon (00:00):
Video. I’m getting countdown.
(00:23):
Good evening everybody. Grace and peace to you and welcome to another episode of Take Action. As always, I am extremely, extremely humbled and just blessed to be able to share this platform that this giant has been given in the person of Pastor Keion Henderson. What an amazing ministry gift he is and I’m just humbled to be connected and humbled that he would allow me the time to speak with and share truths with the people that he brings leadership to. Those of you who are here on Tuesday nights and you watch whenever you get a chance and it comes up on your feed and you follow it, it really means that you have a desire to grow in the word of God, and so our time together is very important and in the upcoming weeks and months you will see even Pastor Henderson taking action through the word of God because we believe that we should be doers of the word and not just hearers.
(01:31):
I want you all to continue to just praise God for our miracle report. People are still sending in testimonies, people are still receiving life-changing news at the Southeast campus. This past Sunday, we received a testimony that after we had done an altar call and prayed for families that a young lady whose father had been on crack cocaine and meth her whole entire life decided he wanted to give his life to Christ and into rehab. Those are the miracle reports we want to hear as well. We want to hear how God is touching your life through the Lighthouse Ministries. I’m excited about this topic of discussion today. I believe that this is going to be life-changing for you if you really tune in over our next few minutes. Together, we’ve got about 25, 30 minutes we’re going to spend in this word right here. I want to talk to you tonight about the power of obedience and I want y’all to talk back to me.
(02:36):
I want you to, I want you to share, I want to make sure that we are getting this message out starting now because I’m telling you, you don’t want to come in on the tail end of this. You want to start now liking and sharing somebody to watch this because if you get this tonight, it’s really going to change the course of what God is desiring to do in your life. If you would share with somebody and sow this into somebody’s life, I believe that you’re going to help them out tremendously. Obedience is a very, very hot topic, I believe in the lives of believers. We’re in the month of worship here at the Lighthouse Church and I think that you cannot talk about worship without talking about obedience, right?
(03:22):
The first thing that man finds out, and we’re going to go to Genesis chapter two, verse number 15, I want you to get your Bibles. It should be showing up on the screen. We want to start the discussion there because I believe if you are going to ever get the mystery of obedience, it’s going to start with your assignment. What were you created to do? Those of you who are going to be honest with me tonight, and those of you who are going to really, really dive in this with me, you’ll be honest and say that one of the hardest things to do or some of the hardest things to do are the things that God has called you to do, right? Every assignment that God gives you most of them are not easy and I think the power of obedience is yes to your assignment.
(04:15):
It is difficult to say that you are a worshiper if you don’t have a yes in your life. It is difficult to say you are a worshiper if you’re not willing to do what he created you to do. All right, so I want to go to Genesis chapter two verse 15 and let’s look at something here. Genesis chapter two verse 15. It’s talking about Adam and him putting him in the garden. I don’t want to go up and read it, but before you get to verse 15 in verse seven and eight is something very interesting there. The Bible says that he created him, he breathed the breath of life into Adam and the Bible says he became a living soul. And then the scripture says right after that in verse number eight that he put him in the garden, that he put him there, he deposited him there, which is what Pastor Keon taught us, which he also brought up the fact that anytime you make a deposit, it means that you want to get a withdrawal.
(05:20):
So he put him there for a reason in order that he might get something out of him, right, that he might cause Adam to do something that he had called him to do, that he had created him to do. And your assignment is what God has created you to do, what he has called you to do. He created you to be a worshiper, but within that creation is a calling and your assignment is what he is calling for you to do. And those of you who are watching this, I know that some of you have to be struggling with what he has called you to do. I would not be talking to you about this. I would not be teaching this tonight if there weren’t people out there that are struggling with what you’ve been called to do for various reasons. Some of you’re struggling because it’s tough, it’s hard.
(06:03):
Some of you’re struggling because there are attacks that come along with it. Some of you’re struggling because you feel like you’re not worthy, you’re not good enough, you make too many mistakes, but I’m here to tell you that obedience to your assignment is what’s going to change the trajectory of your life. Verse 15, Genesis chapter two, and the Lord God took man and put him in the garden of Eden. Here’s why to dress it and to keep it. Verse 16 says, and the Lord God commanded the man saying, of every tree of the garden, thou Mays freely eat but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shall not eat of it. For in the day that thou eat us thereof, thou shall surely die. What’s interesting is that he gives Adam these instructions, and Adam’s job is obey my instructions. Do not eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil every other tree you can eat of except for the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
(07:10):
Now, the issue is that, and I can’t go deep into it, there’s a deep teaching and a deep revelation about why he told them don’t eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. But what I want to talk about today just is just the fact that he tells him don’t do it, and what does the enemy do? The enemy comes right in and attacks the area that God tells him don’t do. And so what he’s really coming after is your obedience. Can you be fully obedient to the thing that God has called for you to do? Here’s the definition of obedience. Obedience is compliance with an order. It is compliance with any request or a law or it is submission to another’s authority. I’ll read that again. Obedience is compliance with an order, a request or compliance with a law or submission to another’s authority.
(08:17):
What’s interesting to me is that the Bible in and of itself is a legal, spiritual legal document, so when you obey the word of the Lord and when you obey God’s word for your life, what you’re really doing is you are obeying the law of God. Now, when you think law, you think, oh testament, but Jesus is the law embodied right? And so when God gives us his word, he is giving us a law. He is giving us a order that we should be compliant to, and so when we are not obedient to his word, it means that we’re not obedient to this legal document that releases promises and gives things in our lives that cause us to be able to be blessed. I think that what we’ve got to address is why is it that many of us find it hard to be obedient?
(09:20):
When you’re looking at Genesis two, what I find there is that my compliance, whenever I am obedient to the law of God, my compliance equals trust. The reason why I comply with what God tells me is because I trust that what you tell me is true. I trust that what you tell me is for my good, and so what did the devil do? He comes after Adam and Eve’s trust. God says, don’t eat of this tree. Don’t eat of that tree. The day you eat of it, you’re going to surely die. Do you remember what Lucifer said to them during their conversation? It’s so loaded. I wish I had time, but I don’t have a lot of time with you tonight. I really want to talk about that conversation that the serpent had. I got to stop saying Lucifer. It was the serpent.
(10:14):
It was a spirit that Lucifer put in the serpent to begin to influence the thoughts of Adam and Eve and that’s a whole nother teaching because your thoughts have a lot to do with your obedience or disobedience. Some of you are fighting demonic thoughts which cause you to weaken and cause you to be frail and calls you to teeter totter in your obedience with God, but he comes to Adam and Eve, the serpent does being sent by Lucifer and begins to tell them the day you eat of that tree, you shall not surely die. God just knows that when you eat of it, you’re going to be like him. Now remember this was Lucifer’s problem anyway that he wanted to be like God, you got to be careful that you don’t let demonic thoughts mess with your obedience. When God tells you to do something, you cannot let a Luciferian assignment or a Luciferian servant that is coming to you to affect your thoughts and affect your obedience, calls you to be disobedient.
(11:20):
God gave you a word. God told you that the day you eat of that tree you shall surely die, and what happens is when you don’t comply to God’s rules, when you’re not obedient to his word for your life, it draws you out of your assignment. It draws you out of what God has called for you to do. It pulls you away from what it is that God has called for you to do and the devil’s desire is to move you out of obedience and move you into disobedience. I stopped when I lose trust in the law giver. When I stop trusting God is when I start moving into disobedience. My obedience to God is because I trust God. I trust that as ridiculous as this may sound, even when I hear seeds and thoughts of doubt creeping into my mind, I remain obedient because I remain full of faith, and so if my disobedience or me stopping my compliance or me stopping obeying the law giver who is God equals my disobedience and I stopped doing that, what’s really happening is we find ourselves in a situation of lawlessness and if I had time, which I don’t, I could deal with the state of the world and why there is so much lawlessness and why the enemy is using police the way he’s using police and not all police are bad, but with all of the things that we’ve seen happen predominantly to African-Americans and the things that we’ve had to witness with officers of the law and why people seem to be in a muck and nobody seems to be, there just seems to be this spirit of lawlessness that has gone through the land where there’s murder and violence and everybody’s kind of doing their own thing and we see these subliminal messages being pushed.
(13:21):
As much as I love Nike telling us to just do it, and I don’t drink a lot of Sprite these days, but telling you to obey your thirst, everything is about just do what you want to do.
(13:33):
Just live your own life, live your best life. Yolo. I think that that lawlessness is directly rooted in the fact that the enemy wants people to stop trusting God because when I trust what he has told me, I don’t move into lawlessness. I comply with him, and so obedience, listen to this follows faith. I first believe God, therefore I obey him. That’s why the Bible says faith without works is dead because what comes after faith is the works of obedience. Do the thing that he’s telling you to do because you trust him. The etymology of the word that was just the definition, the etymology of the word obedience is extremely powerful. I want to teach you tonight, I want to talk to you tonight. I don’t want you to think I’m teaching at you, so let’s just call this a conversation. I want to talk to you tonight about something that I believe is going to unlock the next dimension of where you’ve been trying to go.
(14:41):
Some of you feel like you’ve been going good and then your momentum just stops and you just hit this door and you can’t move any further. It’s because I believe you need the key of obedience, so the etymology in my mind is just as or more powerful than the definition because the etymology of the word obedience is the practice or virtue of submission to a higher power or authority. So when I’m obedient, literally what I’m saying is that I’m willing to submit that word. Submit means to get under the mission that he has for my life. Oh, it means to get under it. The word sub means to be under something and so what’s covering me, what I am submitting to what I am up under the authority of is not my own will but his mission for my life and that is sometimes the most difficult thing to do.
(15:46):
David’s mission was almost derailed. His mission was David, I’ve called you to be the king that will be a worshiper that will ultimately bring the glory of God back to Israel that Saul acted as if it was not important, so your job is going to be to reverse the spirit of Kobad and go get the glory back. Well, in two Samuel chapter six, we see that destiny almost being derailed because he didn’t like how God handled Za and the Bible says he takes the ark of God and he puts it in Obed Ed’s house because like many of us, he says, I’m done. I’m washing my hands of this. I know God told me to do this, but I’m tired of being obedient when it doesn’t seem to work in my favor because obedience is not just doing what God told you to do when it’s comfortable for you.
(16:42):
Obedience doesn’t mean I do it when it feels good to do it. Obedience means I got to be willing to do it even when I don’t like what’s going on around me. How many of you know obedience can be messy obedience, it can lead you into some places. Just ask Joseph. Joseph is trying to be obedient to his father. Now, let’s take a few minutes. In Genesis 37, the Bible calls his father whose name is Jacob when it calls him, Jacob is dealing with him as a man, but then his name is changed to Israel and it’s talking about his God side. This is Genesis chapter 37, just in a matter of three verses, it calls ’em both Jacob and Israel. When it calls him Israel, it is really likening him to God, right? It is talking about his God side. The Bible says Now Israel loved Joseph more than his brethren because he was the son of his old age and he tells him to go and check on your brothers that the Bible has already told us they hate him and they cannot speak peaceably unto him.
(17:45):
Another message in and of itself, but his father says, go check on these brothers that hate you. Joseph, in his obedience, yes, in the text to his father, but really to God goes to check on brothers that hate him and where does it end him? It causes him to end up in a pit. They really wanted to kill him, but his brother Judah comes up with a plan so that he won’t end up dead, but he ends up in a pit which is a whole nother message because of just what Judah’s name means. His obedience landed him in a pit. What do you do when obeying God seems to end you up in more trouble than what you thought you were in before when it puts you in an uncomfortable place, but I need you to understand that that obedience caused another level of favor on Joseph’s life because if you go back to Genesis chapter 37, when the Bible says Now Israel loved Joseph more than his brethren, that was grace.
(18:57):
That’s favor. He was just born into that. That was favor. He didn’t do nothing to deserve grace. The definition of Grace’s unmerited favor. It is unmerited favor. You didn’t do nothing to deserve it. It’s just God’s grace to your life, but his obedience, first of all teaches us that grace since his unmerited favor, it’s not the only version of favor. There must be other versions of favor. There is a favor that Joseph earned because of his obedience whereby when he got into the pit, he was sold into slavery and ended up in Potiphar’s house. Soon as he got to Potiphar’s house, this favor becomes evident because he is elevated. Soon as he gets there and Potiphar puts him over everything, but because the devil is the devil, here it is again, my obedience lands me in prison because Potiphar’s wife is after him and he ends up having enough integrity and enough obedience in his life to make sure that he doesn’t get caught up in those type of things and he ends up in prison because of his obedience.
(20:02):
Again, I’m just trying to help somebody because we think that we can turn away and begin to walk in disobedience because we don’t like how things are playing out in our lives is ministering to me. If it’s not ministering to anybody else and he ends up in prison, but what happens to him in prison? That same favor that his obedience gained him begins to be evident again because he is elevated once again ultimately coming out of prison and being second in command and we call him the prince of Egypt because when you are obedient, it releases another round of favor on your life. I want to encourage some people here to know that your obedience is releasing favor even when it’s not comfortable for you that you don’t let the enemy like Adam and Eve whisper in your ear. I come against every demon that’s whispering in your ear no matter how bad it looks, no matter how bad it’s gotten, no matter how bad you want to walk away from it, no matter how bad you want to walk away from them, if God told you to be there, if this is your assignment, you stay until God releases you.
(21:16):
Are you hearing me? I want to go quickly to two scriptures as we end our time together. Philippians chapter two verse number five, Philippians chapter two, verse number five. It should be coming up on your screen right now, Philippians chapter two, verse number five.
(21:39):
If you’re liking this, if this is helping you, if this is blessing you, I need you to share it. Please share the link. Tell somebody to watch it. I need you to clap your hands. I need you to put fiery emojis in the comments. Just type, it’s blessing me. Whatever this is doing for you, I need you to let us know because we want to be a blessing. We’re trying to be a blessing and I’m giving you a key tonight. I’m really giving you a key tonight that is going to unlock the next dimension for you. I’m telling you, if God can get your obedience, he will open so many doors that the enemy wanted closed in your life. Chapter number five, Philippians chapter two, I’m sorry, Philippians verse number five, Philippians chapter two, verse number five, let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.
(22:32):
Can we just pause for a minute? I really want to take my time and teach, but I’m running out of time. I just want to pause for a minute and go back to Adam and Eve because in verse in chapter three when the devil started this conversation, which is why you got to be careful, entertaining things that are demonic things that the enemy sends you away, he’s whispering doubt in their mind which leads them into disobedience. You have to understand that your obedience starts in your mind before it ever starts in your actions, so he says, let the mind be in you who was also in Christ Jesus. What kind of mind did he have? Verse six, who being in the form of God thought it not robbery to be equal with God but made himself of no reputation? Do you understand that your obedience sometimes means knowing you have the power to do a thing but humbling yourself even in the midst of that, some of us are so busy wanting to prove to everybody that we are who we say we are and God’s trying to tell you, be silent.
(23:47):
You don’t have to speak your peace. I am the Lord your God. Vengeance is mine, said the Lord. I will repay in due time, God’s going to show people who you are. I don’t know who I’m talking to. You can tell me if I’m talking to you, but I believe that somebody who’s watching tonight, this is going to free you from having to prove yourself to people. He was equal with God. This is the mind that he had. He was equal with God, but he was willing to make himself of no reputation and take on the form of a servant and it was made and was made in the likeness of men. Let’s keep going to verse eight, made in the likeness of men, verse eight is the powerful verse and being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself and became here. It is obedient unto death.
(24:45):
Even the death of the cross, he humbled himself knowing that he was God equal with God, didn’t walk around flexing telling people who he was because the real power is can you harness what God has given you until he tells you to release it? Real power is being able to be humble when you know have the power to destroy some stuff. I’m talking to somebody, I can flip all of this stuff over in here. You ever been in that situation? I got the power to ruin you, but real power is being humble and only doing what God has called you to do. This is the power that God displayed. Jesus Christ displayed that he was obedient unto death. Some of us can’t be obedient and speak to the people that God tells us to speak to. Some of us have issues with being obedient, with just giving what he tells us to give.
(25:50):
The Lord tells you to give something that you’ve never given so that you can be life so that he can change your life. Some of us have trouble just doing that, but the Bible says he was obedient unto death. God forbid that he ever take us that far. Some of us have trouble just staying put in an assignment in ministry that he tells us to be in. Some of us can’t be obedient in relationships and just stay where God tells us to stay, but the Bible says he was obedient unto death. This is the example that we should follow. There’s one last verse before I end our time together and I pray that this is blessing y’all. There’s one last scripture that I want to read. I didn’t, didn’t come to keep you long. I think production has this. If not, we’re just going to read it together.
(26:38):
Romans five and 19, Romans chapter five, verse 19. Really quick, go there. If it’s not here in the sanctuary, it should be on your screens right now. Romans chapter five, verse number 19. If not, just get your Bible out and you go there with me. Romans chapter five, verse 19. I want you to see how powerful, see how powerful this is just one verse y’all with me. For as by one man’s disobedience. Who is that man? That’s Adam. Many were made sinners. Are y’all hearing me? This is the power of obedience. Now we see the power of disobedience, one man’s disobedience. Many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous, the obedience of Christ who is the second Adam? One man caused all of us if we desire it to be made righteous. I’m telling you that obedience is so powerful that those of you who are watching me right now, if you would just obey, if you would just tell the Lord yes, that you would see a level of open doors and righteousness like you’ve never seen in your life, hear me, that the righteousness of Jesus Christ is given to us.
(28:11):
We are dirty, we’re filthy rags, but when we do the best we can to obey him, the righteousness that he has becomes available to us. I’m speaking to you now that the enemy is losing his power. I’m looking right at you in this camera and I’m telling you now, whoever’s listening to this, the devil is losing his power. I don’t care how hard it is, and one day I’ll be able to tell my story of how I really wanted to move out of a situation that God knows I had the right to move out of and the Lord told me, don’t move, and it caused me to walk in my destiny for the next 18 years because I stood still. Now, I’ve made a lot of mistakes since then, and disobedience is a ongoing thing. It is a thing that causes us to have to grow into Philippians chapter two, when it talked about Jesus Christ becoming obedient.
(29:13):
That word became because it’s in that text, verse number eight, he became obedient. It literally means that he had to be generated into being obedient, that he was being assembled. That’s the Greek word. Even Jesus himself had to be assembled into the obedient man that he became because of his hypostatic union. He was 100% God and 100% man, but the man part of him had to be assembled into being obedient. All the persecution that he was going through leading up to the garden where he said, Lord, let this cup pass for me, nevertheless, not my will but thy will be done. All of that was assembling him into his obedient self so that when he got to the garden and when he got to the cross, he could tell the Lord, yes, I want you to be patient with yourself because God is assembling you into being obedient, but it starts with a yes.
(30:18):
I’m praying right now that God will remove the spirit of disobedience from your life and you would tell God yes, those of you watching me right now, there’s a yes that you need to give him and we’re getting ready to give right now and this seed that you’re about to sow specifically right now, the one you’re about to give right now, I want you to be very spiritual with this gift because this one is connected to obedience. I’m about to pray a quick prayer because I want God to speak to the people that are watching just because of what I just taught. I want God to speak to you and I want you to see as you hear his voice, can I obey what he’s telling me to do right now? I have the ability right now to pass an immediate quiz, an immediate test after I’ve just received this word.
(31:17):
I want you to get ready to give it now. Father, thank you for those that are watching us online. I pray that this word that was given to them would be seed sown into their heart, but as you speak to them in what they should sow, as we take action all across this nation, even pastor this week traveling to take action, all of the things that you’ve given to his hands to do, that the people who are watching us would obey, see what it is that God has called for us to do on this platform and sow into this ministry right now. I want you to begin sowing. I want you to begin sowing in obedience. Whatever. Whatever he’s telling you to do, it is not too small, it’s not too large. It’s all about his word. What is he saying to you right now? If he tells you to sow large and you so small, that’s disobedience. Whatever it is, if he tells you to sow a certain amount, whatever it is, I need you to walk in that obedience right now. God bless you. We love you. Use the key of obedience to unlock the next door in your life and as always with this word, take it and take action.
Pastor Keion (32:28):
Hey everybody. My name is Pastor Keion Henderson. I am the founder of an organization called Take Action. Now. People are always direct messaging me and texting me and saying, pastor, what are you doing? How can I be a part of what you’re doing? And I know everybody doesn’t want to be a part of the local church, but what if I told you I had a way for you to partner with me so that we can affect change throughout the world? Hence, take action now. A 5 0 1 C3 nonprofit organization committed to advancing individual agency and social progress by protecting, strengthening and uplifting the underserved and disenfranchised throughout the world. We’re doing humanitarian things, teaching entrepreneurism, teaching home ownership and institutional inequities, cultural deficits. We have our ear to the ground and we need your help to make a difference whether it is making a sizable donation to the estate of a young woman who lost her battle with cancer via the internet, and we were able to make a difference there, or whether it is in a underserved community in the Caribbean islands where the children were playing amidst rocks and glass and we came in and broke ground recently on a park so that athletes and cheerleaders and young people in that community can have a safe place to stir up the gift inside of them.
(33:53):
Whether it is paying the utility bills in cold climates for seniors or just helping basketball players get the proper uniforms of football players. It’s just us making a difference through financial literacy and technological empowerment and mentoring services. This is what we do, and all I’m asking you to do is become a partner with me right now and I want you to go visit Take action now.org. Don’t put off for tomorrow what you can do today.
