This is the month of worship and my goal this month is not to get you to the place of worship as much as it is to tell you why we worship. Understanding why you do something is sometimes more powerful than the thing you do. We don’t worship so that God will do what we want him to do. We worship because we were created to do so. Nothing more, nothing less, which is why today I’m going to start in an unfamiliar and an unexpected place as I explain worship to you. I’m not starting in the gospels, I’m not starting in the epistles. I won’t be talking to you through the mouths of the major and the minor prophets. I’m starting from the pen of Moses in the Book of Genesis because worship goes back as far as humans and it wasn’t in the temple or the tabernacle where we saw expressions of worship. We saw worship in creation. Turn with me to the book of Genesis chapter number two, beginning at verse number one. Thus the heavens and the earth were finished and all the host of them on the seventh day, God ended his work which he had made and rested on the seventh day from all of his work

Which he had made and God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made. These are the generations of the heavens and the earth when they were created in the day that the Lord God made the earth and heavens verse five and every plant of the field before it was in the earth and every herb of the field before it grew for the Lord God had not caused it to reign up on the earth and there was not a man to till the ground. See, this is not me getting. I don’t want you to shout. I want you to know why you are shout. They used to say in the old church, this joy that I have, the world didn’t give it to me and the world can’t take it away. I’m going to get you to the place that you’re going worship. Even if you don’t have money in your pocket, you’re going to worship. If your car won’t start, you’re going to worship. When you are in between jobs, you going worship with your heart broken because it won’t be about the stuff. It’ll be about the savior. God told me to preach on this subject. You won’t shout about it, but it’ll make sense. God told me to call this the owner’s manual. You may be seated in the presence of the Lord. I must warn you this introduction’s going to be disgusting. I read a story about a young man who was a foreign exchange student and went to India to study and when he got to India, he was inundated, excited about a marketplace that he saw where he was selling all kinds of goods and when he got to a certain position, he saw a man who had a bunch of washing machines lined up.

The washing machines were on and the lids were up and they were in the midst of their cycle. He goes over to the man thinking that the man is selling washing machines. He looks over into the washing machine and he sees what he describes as dark colored water, but then the man says to him, would you like to try it? The man said, wait a minute. No, I don’t want to try it. He said, you don’t want any of what’s in the washing machine. He said, no, I don’t drink dirty water. He said, this isn’t dirty water. This is tea. He was using the washing machine to make tea, but the man refused to drink it because here in America we don’t use washing machines to make tea. We use washing machines to wash clothes thereby in our minds the inside of a washing machine is, and the Lord showed me that it is very difficult for us to accept something from a source that wasn’t designed to deliver it. Nothing was wrong with the T, nothing was wrong with the machine. What was wrong is he was being asked to accept something from something that wasn’t divine to deliver it.

Are you with me so far? So of course he declined. How many of you all would’ve declined? I would’ve declined because I don’t get my tea out of washing machines. Are you listening so far? Of course he declined. It only makes sense because the moral of the story is it is hard to accept something from a source that wasn’t designed to deliver it. Now, to go a step further, if I’m thinking in owner’s manual warranty mindset, what the man with the washing machine has just done is he’s actually forfeited the warranty on the product because the manufacturer is under no obligation to look after something that was used for a purpose other than it was created. The owner’s manual somewhere in there says that this machine is designed to wash clothes, but if you’re going to use it for tea, that’s your business, but you can’t come back to me to fix it when you’ve used it for a purpose other than what I deserve. Do you agree or disagree? It’s like having an iPhone. If something happens to your iPhone and you take it back to Apple or at t or wherever to get it fixed, they’ll warranty. Now, if you take that phone and get it augmented in some

Fix it dot coms place in the strip mall and then you try to take it back to the manufacturer, it’s yours. Because anytime you allow anybody who’s not authorized to get into your internal mechanisms, you have forfeited your right to go back to the originator to seek recompense. I think some of y’all already know where I’m going. I’m just trying to set this thing up so you can hear what I’m saying. Now I use this as a way of introducing a new concept to some and really just having a conversation with those who are custom and to remind the rest of us that God is the original man. You factor before there was an apple, before there was a Sears, before there was a Walmart, before there was a target, before there was a Samsung, before there was a God who was manufacturing things and God is a master brander because just like Apple and everybody else, he also puts his image on everything he creates. Let us create man in our own image, in our own logo, in our own image and likeness so that when people see the creation, they automatically associate the creation with the create.

Do I got a church in here today? So the primary purpose of God as the man you factor of man was that men would praise him. God’s original design for man was worship. Now you can put T in it. If you want to come on talk to me, you can decide that your purpose is to be a mother. You can decide that your purpose is to be a CEO. You can decide that your purpose is to be an athlete. You can decide all of that. You can do all of that, but when you decide to do something else with yourself, you cannot come back to the manufacturer and ask him to warranty a job he never gave you. You were not born to be a father. You were born to be a worshiper. You were not born to be a millionaire. You were born to be a worshiper. You were not born to be an athlete. You were born to be a worshiper and God’s plan is, is that if he gives you athletic ability, when they put that microphone in your face, you’ll start off worshiping him for the abilities he gave you. Now pass out and shout, but you learned you were created to do one thing and that is to worship and anytime you have an opportunity to worship and you don’t, you are functioning and you know what we do to things that malfunction, we either send them back or throw them away. You have no purpose to God other than worship him. You can’t give him money. The money you got, it’s his. Everybody breathe where you buy that at. Just tell me where they selling oxygen so I can go store up some. Now you say, yeah, they do sell it, but they took it from him. Put it in the bottle. Ain’t that amazing that you can take God’s stuff and make money from it. Man can capture oxygen, but he cannot create it. Raise your hand. You can thank God for that. S stump your foot. You can praise him for that. Clap your hands. You can praise God for that because every function that you have is a result of what God has given you. Oh, that men would praise and let everything that has breath. Praise the Lord. You’re a worshiper.

Some are gray, some are white, some are black. You see, you can come in different forms, but inside of the mechanism of the washing machine, the goal is to create agitation so dirt will release no matter what it looks like on the outside. Every one of them have the same function on the inside and I am telling you right now whether you got a Michael Kors bag or a Louis Vuitton bag, whether your clothes came from Target or Dior, I don’t care who you are in this place, I don’t care how you look on the outside, I don’t care how dressed up you are. I don’t care how much money you have in your pocket, you got to humble yourself and be able to worship God no matter who you

Worship is not shouting. Worship is not speaking in tongues. Worship is not dancing. If worship was dancing, then God would have to give everybody the ability to do it. And the truth is, some of y’all included me just can’t dance. I’ve seen some of y’all try to hold a dance quit. Leave that to the people who’ve been raised in that way. Leave that to Pastor Hammond. Pastor Hammond can dance. Like listen, you bring Pastor Hammond up here, he can dance until the cows go home. You put me and Raymond and Bishop C on up here, we are going to embarrass ourselves. So if God created us to worship and everybody can’t do it, then that must mean that isn’t worship. Worship is not crying. Who worship was good? No, you just cried because you’re emotional and you start thinking about what you wanted to do, what you wanted God to do and it didn’t happen yet. So you cried and hoped that he would. No, those are reactions and expressions to worship, but the definition of worship is the right response to God. That is the definition of worship. The definition of worship is the right response

So that whenever God is in our midst, we respond to it and some of us respond with holy hands. Some of us respond with dancing with the feet. Some of us respond with speaking in our heaven language. Some of us respond with our hands. We all have different expressions of how we worship him, but it is all predicated on the fact that we are responding correctly to God.

Okay, so when you say let’s go to church, I know you don’t have the right mindset, you cannot go to a place you are. How do I know I’m the church? The Bible says when this old earthly tabernacle. Tabernacle, what’s a tabernacle? A sanctuary. What’s a sanctuary? A place where God lives. So we are the ecclesia. We are the called out ones. We are the church. We don’t go to church. We are the church and the church assembles in the sanctuary. This is not a church. This is a sanctuary. The church is online and the church is in these pews. And since I am the church and worship takes place in the church, then when worship is not in me, I’m a man malfunctioning. You see? So when I’m worshiping, I’m in my design. When I’m angry, I’m malfunctioning. Anytime you do anything other than worship, you’re broken. Because you were created to worship. Wouldn’t you get rid of a washing machine that dried the clothes? Wouldn’t you get rid of a refrigerator that heated the food? So why should God keep a man that won’t worship? You are asking God to satisfy you with long life and you won’t praise them. You are asking God to satisfy you with long life. Why? So you can be here with your children. Them are not your children. Those are his. He puts you here to worship.

I see people in church all the time, worship be gone all around. They don’t take all that. They don’t know their design. You will create it. Are y’all listening? It is. Holler your boy if I’m talking good so far. Now all of the other stuff that you do, thank God for the abilities because he gives every man a gift and there are some of us who have multiple gifts, but everybody has at least one. Now that’s a whole nother teaching. Every one of You’all have a spiritual gift. I’m just telling you that it’s in the scripture, Paul said it, but to some he gave us more. But outside of your spiritual gifts, there is one thing that all of us can do that it doesn’t matter whether you grew up Catholic or whether you grew up Presbyterian or whether you grew up Methodist or whether you grew up Baptist or whether you grew up koic. You a worshiper. Say amen if I’m talking to you, amen. This is important because this is my foundation for the rest of the month. Now let’s go back to the beginning of worship. Genesis two verse 15 says, the Lord God took man and put him where in the garden of Eden

To work it and keep it, to work it and keep it. Now the word put is important because the Hebrew word for put is transliterated deposit. So when the Bible says that God put Adam and eve in the garden, it actually translates he deposited. Now the reason why you may struggle to see this is because those of us who are American, we read scripture through western eyes. So when we see the word put, it’s like I put on clothes or I put something someplace. The word put translated in the Hebrew means to deposit. Now what’s a deposit? A deposit is something that you put in a safe place where you expect to go get it with interest. Whenever something is deposited, you do not deposit money in the bank with the expectation that you will go back and get the same amount out you deposit in the bank because the bank promises interest. Now, if I can go on a whole tangent about the banking system, I will tell you that you really never make interest. Let me show you this. They’re going to get mad at me. They charge you, watch this, they tell you they’re going to give you interest and then they charge you fees.

What are the fees equal to the amount of interest they give you? So now you want to wire your money, they charge you $30. There’s the interest back. See, this is the kind of stuff that get people in trouble. A deposit. A deposit, I expect to come. I expect that when I come and get it that it will give me dividends. It will have accumulated more than it was worth when I put it in. So God being the manufacturer who deposited Adam and Eve the garden or deposited you into Houston expects that when he comes back to get you that you won’t be worth the same thing you were worth when he deposited you. I don’t know who this is for, but God told me to tell every worshiper you coming out with more than you went in with. Who am I talking now? This is only for worshipers.

I’m not talking to people who play church. I’m talking to worshipers. I’m talking about people who worship him in spirit and in truth, I’m not talking about people who are responding to what I’m saying right now. I’m talking about people who live a lifestyle of worship. I worship in my car, I worship in my kitchen. I worship in my bedroom. I worship in my cubicle. I worship in the grocery store. Do I have any real worshipers in here? You might bust out singing amazing grace at work. I’m talking to worshipers. God says you’re going to come out with more than you went in with somebody. Shout, I’m coming out with more than enough worshipers can’t come out with what they went in with. Why? Because he inhabits. Watch this. The word inhabits translated desires. He desires to be in the praises of his people. In other words, when you worship God, you create an environment where he actually desires to be with you. My question for you is what can you not accomplish if God is with you? Oh, and by the way, if God is for you, the scripture says who can be against you? But the old preacher said of God is for you. He’s more than the, oh, y’all ain’t been in church your whole life. He’s more than the world against you. What you must understand is that worship makes God your neighbor.

God moves in the environment of a worshiper. God sits in the seat with worshipers. When you worship God, you invite God to be a part of all of your affairs. And let me tell you something, when you worship real, I mean I’m talking about real worship. They’re going to look at you and they’re going to say all kinds of stuff. Oh, they just want to be seen. Yes, I do want to be seen, but it is not your attention that I am seeking. I am seeking the attention of somebody that if he ever comes down to see about me, I’ll have more than I went in with.

I need somebody to find a worshiper. See real, recognize real. I want you to look at somebody who look like they’re real worshiper and say real recognize real. Come. If they ain’t, don’t give ’em high five. Some of y’all sitting there, they pretending. I want you to find a real worshiper. I can tell you worship in your house. I can tell you worship on your couch. I can tell you worship on your job. I can tell you worship when you don’t feel good. I can tell you didn’t feel like coming to church, but you came anyway. I can tell you worship sick. I can tell you worship her. Some of y’all sleepy right now because you ain’t a worshiper. See, lemme tell you, when you were a real worshiper, you might’ve felt that thing about to get on you. Then all of a sudden something hit your soul and you woke up because you realized that you are in the presence. And I’m going to talk to you later in the message about why you get sleepy in the sanctuary because you have been to things more boring than church and stayed up the whole night.

You fill in the blank, holler at your boy, and all of a sudden you get in the presence of God and you get this holy lethargic mentality. All of a sudden church is so boring you can’t stay woke. And we are going to talk about why you like to sleep in the sanctuary. Do me a favor, tell somebody I’m coming out with more than I went in with. I didn’t go through all of this hell to come out and be in hell. And time somebody looks at you funny for worshiping, I want you to look him in the face and say, ma’am, sir, pardon me, but I paid for this praise and when I pay for something, I can do what I want to do with it. I dare somebody in here act like you paid for it. I’ve got my heart broke for this worship. I got betrayed for this worship. I lost some stuff for this worship and I know some of y’all don’t believe me. Go to Second Chronicles chapter 20, verse 25 When you get home, there’s a man named Jehosaphat. The bible says that Jehosaphat was a man of war and he was leading, check me on this bishops. He was leading a men, a regimen of men into battle, and as he was leading the men into battle, they were up against somebody who was superior in battle.

So instead of fighting the enemy the way the enemy wanted to fight them, the Bible says jehosaphat them started praising God. Snap. Somebody say, this is how I fight my battle. The Bible says they began to praise God and when they got out to the battlefield, the men who were there to fight them die because worship kills more devils than war. I dare somebody in this place begin to shout and watch God. Now, that’s the part of the scripture we always quote that Jehosaphat worshiped and they put the frontline worshipers out there and the enemy died. But the Bible says in verse 25 that after the enemy died, going back to my original point, that they had so much plunder that they couldn’t carry it all out because worshipers, it took them three days to gather what they won and worship because worshipers always go out with more than they have room enough to receive. I doubt somebody snap. Somebody say, I’m not worshiping to be cute. I’m worshiping. He’s been good to me. I’m not worried about you. I’m worshiping because he’s been worried about me. I’m sorry if I’m stepping on your feet. I’m sorry if I’m in your personal space, but you going to have to give me some room because when I think of the goodness of Jesus

My soul, shout, hallelujah. I said, my soul shouts. Hallelujah. Let the redeemed of the Lord touch. Somebody says it’s going to take you three days to collect it. It’s going to take you three days of taking pictures of checks and depositing them. It’s going to take you three days. I ain’t even saying what I, what was I saying? Oh, in verse 15, I’m sorry I got off track. He said that he put Adam and Eve in the garden for two reasons to work it and to keep it. Let’s talk about it. You got two things you’re going to have to do in this next season. Work it and keep it. Touch somebody say work it.

It and keep it and keep work it. Work it and keep it and keep it. That means after you work, you’re going to have to keep. And while you’re keeping, you’re going to have to keep working. And when the devil comes in like a flood to take it, you’re going to worship. So you can keep it. Somebody shall work it, keep it, work it, keep it, work it. Okay, before you see that, I got one more thing on this point. That ain’t the sermon I told you we missed the Bible. We read through what Western eyes work it work. It doesn’t mean don’t grab no shovel. That ain’t what I’m talking about. Oh, this is about to be a revelation because the word work in the Hebrew is translated minister now. Now it’s about to get dope up in here. The word minister brings in an obscurity that we don’t see on the surface because the Bible says that when Satan was in heaven, he was over the tars, which are the ministering wing to angels, which means that when God put Adam and Eve in the garden and told them to work it, he was actually saying minister and keep it.

So you think that Adam and Eve was out there with a shovel. My question is, where was the shovel? Because when I check it wasn’t invented yet. So when we find Adam and Eve working in the garden, what we can actually really translate is that they were worshiping and that’s why the first job of Adam was ministry. He was a minister. See, the way I keep what God gave me is not to hoard it, it’s to worship him for it. You’ve been trying to figure out why you lost something that was important. You didn’t worship God for it. You took it for granted and it left because you can never keep anything you don’t minister to. Adam and Eve ministered in Eden. That’s what the word work is translated. It is ministry. Now why does Satan hate worship? Because according to scripture, he was in heaven in charge of the Chas who were the ministering angels. And the Bible says in Revelation that when he deceived the whole world, he was kicked out of heaven for the misuse of worship. He was cast down as an angel of light and the Bible says he hit the earth

And now the thing that he was over, he’s against because he was once in charge of worship and now he is the gangs worship because you and the devil have switched places in God’s eyes. You are now the minister. Listen to me. I’m about to give you something. The most dangerous person in your life is the person who’s about to lose their position to you. And there are some people who are going to lose their position to you. You are less qualified than them. You don’t have the degree that they have. You were not born in aristocracy like them. You don’t have the connections that they have. You don’t have the charisma they have, but you do have the worship you not about to get your boss’s job because your degree is bigger. You’re about to get it because you worship and they don’t. I’m looking for somebody in here who will worship so they can keep it. I’m going to give you about 30 seconds to lift up your voice and begin to worship. Tell somebody, say worship, worship, worship, worship, worship. We don’t go to church to worship. We don’t go to church to worship.

We are the church. That’s why we worship. Paul said, your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. That’s why Peter said we are a royal priesthood. Are you listening to me? Worship has to take place in you before it takes place in here you have you ever said to yourself, I ain’t feel it today. Worship wasn’t as good. No, you were not as good. God is consistent. You can’t blame the church for how you came in here. The spirit was unadulterated and authentic as it was last week. But when you come in here, filthy churches, listen, worship is always good. But if you don’t come in here consistently with a worship mind frame, are they missed it today? No, you missed it today. God showed up. How many of y’all have been looking around like what’s wrong with them? I feel God. What’s wrong with char? I feel the Holy Spirit. What’s this spirit of heaviness in here? See, you got to put on the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness. Worship is better therapy than a couch. When you don’t feel good out dare you start shouting. You just shout until you feel better. And that ain’t fake.

That’s worship. Do you know that God loves worship so much that he will accept it from people who don’t love him? You want me to prove it? Let everything that has breath, God loves worship so much that he’ll take it from things that are not redeemed. So let me lay this on you. Ain’t no such thing as fake worship. Fake worshipers. Yes, fake worship. No, because any expression toward God is acceptable. Now can we worship for the wrong reasons? Absolutely. But it’s worship wrong. Ever. Never.

You can’t say, well, I’m just, I’m not expressive that way. That’s just, I’m an introvert. I am just not the kind of person that just shouts out loud, okay? Washing machine, make tea and lose your warranty. Just go ahead and keep telling God what you don’t do. But as long as you keep telling God what you don’t do, can you please stop asking him to do what you want him to do? I’m telling you, if you really worship God, you’ll find yourself here doing stuff you swore you’ll never do. I mean you find yourself in here. Anybody ever felt, now listen. Have you ever really felt like just taking off and running just but you like, oh, I don’t want them people to catch me on Instagram running because I do not want to be ugly. Online worship. You are the temple of God and worship should take place in you no matter how you feel. You lost your job y’all

If you can be honest, everybody who has your phone in your hand right now lifted up, you have the same thing in your hand that Eve had. You can say what you want, you can say what you want, but they got us because for those of y’all who are old enough, we used to carry our phones

I don’t know my neighbor and I didn’t come here to talk to my neighbor. I don’t want to give nobody no high five. It is covid. You ever seen somebody, you tell ’em. They act like they don’t see you talk to your neighbor. You see me stinking self, act like you don’t see me, you my neighbor, look at me. They just act like they into

If it is dangerous to text and drive, why is it permissible to text and worship and anybody ever been checking your social media at a red light and it changes and you still sitting still? Because when you are distracted, you stay still. When you have permission to move and when there is a move of God happening, you miss the move because you are distracted by something that the enemy has placed in your hand. That’s why the Bible says cast your care on him. I don’t care what’s on your mind right now. When you are in worship, you must release it. So you in pain and you’re contemplating things that God’s going to work out. Some of y’all plotting and planning right now, you’re a distracted worshiper expecting to get the full benefits of something you do have heartedly. They that worship him, must worship him in spirit and in truth, that means when I worship, I got to bring all of me to the exercise. Are y’all listening to me? This is my goal this month to get you to see this is why you’re not moving God.

If anything is excellent or praise worthy, think on these things. Your worship is dictated by what you decide to think about. Lemme just pause and ask you what are you thinking about at this moment?

I’m going to give you this and we’re done. God gave them two commandments in the garden. And this is the two commandments that I’m going to give you. Let me read the whole scripture. Be fruitful and multiply. Feel the earth now and subdue it and have dominion over the fish and the seed and the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth. It was God’s original plan for Adam and Eve to take what God had given them and focus on it until it flourishes.
